Array Bulletin: Service & Market Updates for October 2007
It's been a busy month at Array and we have some exciting news to share with you.
New WSHIP Enrollment Tools
We enhanced our WSHIP enrollment tools to help employees denied private coverage through the WSHIP application process.
- Intuitive interview-style process: Employees can now easily go through the application on-line through their Array portal.
- No data re-entry: Automatically prepopulates fields (e.g. home address, contact information, etc.) with previously submitted data.
- Application validation: Checks for consistency and potential errors in the application prior to submission.
Quick Application View
Array responded to your feedback and has added a new feature to the Broker Portal. You can now quickly find and view each applicant's submitted insurance applications and SHQs. This will give you access to key information in the event an applicant calls with questions.
Half of Employers Not Offering Benefits Can Afford at Least $100 PEPM
According to Kaiser's Employer Health Benefits Annual Survey the average cost of premiums for single coverage has risen to $373 per month. Many employers cannot afford this amount for all their employees, which is why employers are dropping coverage and making classes of employees ineligible for benefits.
Kaiser also surveyed employers who do not offer coverage and asked what they believed they could afford to pay for health insurance. The results are as follows:
- Less than $100 per month: 13%
- $100 - $199 per month: 26%
- $200 - $299 per month: 16%
- $300 - $399 per month: 3%
- $400 or more per month: 3%
- Do not know: 39%
The data show that of employers not offering benefits 48% would be willing to contribute at least $100 a month for their employees' health coverage. Array's defined contribution HRA benefit plan offers an ideal solution for these employers.
HRAs For Retiree Plans
Ford is dropping 57,000 retirees from the company's group plan. As a replacement, each retiree will receive $1,800 through an HRA which they can use to purchase Medicare supplement plans and pay for other qualified medical expenses.
Health Reimbursement Arrangements continue to act as a powerful benefits tool for employers who wish to define their annual healthcare liabilities. Presumably as more large employers implement HRA defined contribution plans, HRAs will be increasingly embraced as a solution for the small and medium employer markets.
