Array Bulletin: Service & Market Updates for February 2008

We have had an excellent start to 2008. Sales of our defined contribution service, as well as our newly released product, Array Health Direct, have already exceeded our expectations. Here are the latest updates...

Client Case Study: Previously Uninsured Day Care Center

We recently implemented a day care center a few miles north of Seattle. The center had wanted to offer group health insurance for a few years but could not afford it. Since workers make $10-15 an hour the vast majority were uninsured.

The center determined it could afford to contribute $100 per employee per month toward health benefits. It decided to implement Array's defined contribution service. With the employer's contribution the broker was able to get the majority of employees insurance for the first time.

Everyone at the center has benefited from Array's service. The employer is now offering a benefits program and employees have insurance. The broker is receiving commissions from an account that was previously inaccessible.

New Product Launch Successful

We recently released Array Health Direct (AHD), an on-line individual policy purchasing platform designed for brokerage houses and their clients. AHD is an excellent solution for brokers wanting to sell individual policies on-line, while maintaining broker of record status and receiving full carrier commissions.

After receiving an enthusiastic response from the brokerage community, we have already created a custom branded AHD site for a local brokerage house. When a customer calls to purchase an individual policy the client can simply be referred to the new site. The AHD site improves the customer's policy purchasing process and significantly decreases internal brokerage costs associated with selling individual policies.

New Standard Health Questionnaire

WSHIP has changed its SHQ to be effective April 1st. Array will have the new SHQ on the application platform by the deadline. There was pressure to create a more usable SHQ and a committee was formed to do so. Array's Chief Software Architect, Dan Wolf, was invited to be a guest of that committee and the company has been actively involved in the SHQ's overhaul.

Book Review: Overtreated

David Leonhardt, economics writer for The New York Times, named Shannon Brownlee's Overtreated: Why too Much Medicine is Making Us Sicker and Poorer his economics book of the year.

We found the book extremely interesting and well-written. One of Brownlee's primary points is that health care in the U.S. has a unique market system based on "supply-driven demand." Research has consistently shown that increased facilities and services leads to greater utilization, much of which is unnecessary.

Overtreated has become a mainstream book and there is a good possibility many of your clients have or will read it. We recommend picking it up if you have not done so already.

If you have questions or requests, please don't hesitate to give us a call.

Sincerely,

Christopher Moneta
