Array Bulletin: Service & Market Updates for June 2008

May was an excellent month here at Array. We provided proposals to a record number of employers, signed up several new clients, and continued to improve the software platform. In this issue, we discuss our purpose and share why one previously uninsured employer chose Array. In addition, we explain some of the benefits of selling Array's service to employers.

Why We Exist

Our purpose is to increase the number of working Americans with health insurance. We do this by providing employers an easy, affordable alternative to traditional group health insurance.

There are two realities creating a need for our service:

  1. Traditional group health insurance is expensive. We constantly hear this from employers. Today it costs on average $372 per month to cover one employee under a group plan. This is an 84% increase over the last seven years. As a result, many employers cannot afford group health insurance.
  2. Employers still want to offer health benefits. In a recent Kaiser study, nearly half of employers not currently offering benefits would be willing to contribute $100 or more per month for their employees' health insurance.

Array's defined contribution service helps this growing market segment.

Using our service there are options available for almost all employers wanting to extend health benefits to their employees. Workers, who otherwise would not have explored the individual market, are given easy access to health insurance with a monthly employer reimbursement.

30-Employee Software Co. Chooses Array

Situation: This group did not have insurance previously and could not afford a traditional group plan. The owners wanted to offer benefits to their employees who are predominantly uninsured.

Solution: A broker presented our service and the owners decided to implement Array. Each employee receives a $75 monthly HRA contribution. Because of the relatively young ages of employees, almost everyone will be able to afford a policy for less than the monthly employer contribution. Array enabled this group to offer health benefits to employees for the first time.

Benefits to Brokers

How does Array help brokers?

  • Compensation: When a broker sells Array's service to an employer, they are the Broker of Record on all the individual policies applied for through the Array platform. The insurance carriers pays commissions to the broker directly, typically 7-8% on individual policies. Array is paid by the employer (a per employee per month fee).
  • Increase commissions from within your client base: Array is well suited for companies that want to offer health benefits to employees who are ineligible for a traditional group plan.
  • Effective prospecting tool: Array has helped brokers win business. You can now offer a solution to prospects unable to afford group health insurance.
