Array Bulletin: Service & Market Updates for December 2008
We hope you've had a successful year-end. Below are several recent announcements and updates.
Array Wins MIT Enterprise Forum Technology Competition
The MIT Enterprise Forum, an organization that promotes the growth of new technologies and ventures, held a competition
in early December open to Pacific Northwest companies. Array Health was chosen as one of six company finalists to demonstrate
its software at the event. Company CEO, Jonathan Rickert, conducted the demonstration and responded to questions from the
judges. We are pleased to announce Array won. This recognition provides further evidence that Array's technology is well
regarded both inside and outside the health benefits industry.
Health Insurance Carrier Profits
The national healthcare debate is again heating up. There continues to be discussion about how insurance carriers' profits
artificially inflate the cost of healthcare. However, the third quarter net profit margins of the following publicly traded
insurance carriers suggest otherwise:
Aetna
3.6%
Cigna
3.5%
Humana
2.6%
United Health
4.6%
WellPoint
5.5%
These companies are all for-profit health insurance carriers. The 2007 margins of the local non-profit carriers were between
one and three percent. These data show that reducing insurance carriers' profits will not create significant healthcare
cost reductions.
New Feature Saves Employees Time
Rather than have employees type in their home address and contact information while going through the policy selection and
application process, we can now populate these fields in advance. Employees need only verify that the pre-populated data
are correct as they go through the application process. We successfully introduced this new feature for a large implementation
and it significantly sped up the online application process for employees.
We wish you and your family Happy Holidays!
Sincerely,
Christopher Moneta
