Customer Profile
Brien Motors is a Ford and Mitsubishi dealership located in Everett, WA. Started
over thirty years ago, Brien Motors has made a mission of creating a positive
consumer experience by selling cars with respect and care for the customer.
The company has 80 employees, 60 of whom are eligible for health benefits.
“We didn’t have a way to control costs in the long run. [The Defined Contribution Plan] makes our costs predictable, relieves us of burdensome carrier requirements, and gives employees the flexibility to choose an individual health insurance plan that is best suited to their needs.”
Rock Peterson, Owner Brien Motors
The Challenge
Over the last few years, Brien Motors has experienced double-digit group medical
insurance renewals. The company had to change health plans four times in as
many years due to rising costs. Each year Brien Motors went through the time-intensive
process of reviewing plan designs, comparing options, and selecting a new plan.
The company then had to communicate the changes to employees. Despite offering
generous health insurance benefits, the frequency of the changes led to employee
dissatisfaction.
The Solution: Array Health and Defined Contribution
Brien Motors’ insurance broker proposed Array Health and a Defined Contribution
Health Plan as a long-term solution for maintaining health benefits for employees.
The company now provides each employee with a tax-advantaged monthly health
benefits allowance ranging from $100 to $250. Employees can use these funds
to be reimbursed for individual health insurance policies or other eligible
medical expenses. Array Health, which specializes exclusively in Defined Contribution
Health Plan administration, makes it easy for Brien Motors to manage the plan.
