The Dartmouth Atlas of Healthcare

The Dartmouth Atlas Project tracks variations in the efficiencies of medical care nationally, regionally, and locally. Prior to the Atlas Project it was largely assumed that medical care was delivered with the same effectiveness and at the same cost throughout the country. This project has proven that there are great discrepancies with how care is delivered and the price of care. In addition, it’s found that there is typically a correlation between lower cost and better health outcomes.
